Japan is Creating the New Internet and Killing the Old One?

According to the great site, inventorspot, on Steve Levenstein’s blog, Japan has plans to develop a post internet network that will make spammers and web junk a thing of the past….

so this is beyond web 2.0, this is insanely good…. except that the new internet has a scary side for western net surfers:

The scary part? “Cooperating with other nations, including the United States, will be an option.”

    original article here…

    Thanks Steve

Global warming Natural Phenomena Caused by the Sun? Neil Young MP3 Helps Me Decide

why is are portions of antarctica getting colder?

the following snippet taken from here: timesonline.co.uk

    “The best measurements of global
air temperatures come from American weather satellites, and they show
wobbles but no overall change since 1999.

That levelling off is just what is expected by the chief rival hypothesis,
which says that the sun drives climate changes more emphatically than
greenhouse gases do. After becoming much more active during the 20th
century, the sun now stands at a high but roughly level state of activity.
Solar physicists warn of possible global cooling, should the sun revert to
the lazier mood it was in during the Little Ice Age 300 years ago.

Climate history and related archeology give solid support to the solar
hypothesis. The 20th-century episode, or Modern Warming, was just the latest
in a long string of similar events produced by a hyperactive sun, of which
the last was the Medieval Warming.

The Chinese population doubled then, while in Europe the Vikings and
cathedral-builders prospered. Fascinating relics of earlier episodes come
from the Swiss Alps, with the rediscovery in 2003 of a long-forgotten pass
used intermittently whenever the world was warm.

What does the Intergovernmental Panel do with such emphatic evidence for an
alternation of warm and cold periods, linked to solar activity and going on
long before human industry was a possible factor? Less than nothing. The
2007 Summary for Policymakers boasts of cutting in half a very small
contribution by the sun to climate change conceded in a 2001 report.”

food for thought to say the least…
do some research and try to decide for yourself which side you are on.

Finally, the constant skeptic goes to Washington! February 13th - climate change seminar in DC

Yes, I have a day time job that keeps me busy. I don’t have time to blog more than a few lines or links every couple of days. Sorry, if blogging is not one of my main priorities, but one can be only so disconnected with the real world before your mind becomes just another circuit board.

But since I am still skeptical about this whole global warming / global climate change issue, I am heading to DC to attend this:

“Addressing Climate Change: Good Politics, Good Economics”

    Keynote Speaker:
The Rt. Hon. David Miliband, MP, UK Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

    Introduction by:
John D. Podesta, President and Chief Executive Officer, Center for American Progress

    The
British government has long been at the forefront of international
action to address climate change and the Rt. Hon. David Miliband MP,
“Labour’s Rising Star,” is now leading that effort as Secretary of
State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Late last year,
Secretary Miliband introduced legislation in Parliament that would
reduce greenhouse gas emissions 60% by 2050 with hard five-year
benchmarks to ensure action is taken in the short and long-term. The
recent release of the Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental
Panel on Climate Change and the Stern Review on the Economics of
Climate Change, an influential report published by the British Treasury
that examined for the first time the devastating impact climate change
could have on global economic output, only underscore the importance of
this and other efforts to address the causes of climate change.

    Tuesday, February 13, 2007
    Program: 6:00pm to 7:00pm
    Admission is free.

Refreshments will be served at 5:30 p.m.

    Center for American Progress

I am attending this seminar as the constant skeptic, so I will hopefully be providing a full summary including video clips, pictures, and audio quotes.

IN FEAR MONGERING and THE WEATHER:

    IT COULD HAPPEN TOMORROW!
    (literally)

There is a huge snowstorm that is supposed to hit starting monday night:

I am skeptical of this, all this is is weather fear mongering
    but, oh well….

I am going to attend the climate change seminar no matter what, thats why I have a 4×4.

Snowstorms don’t scare me, the people out driving in them without four wheel drive going 4 miles an hour in the left lane scares the sh&t out of me. Running out of windshield washer fluid going at 75 mph in slushy conditions scares me. Getting up at 4am to the sound of a helicopter outside scares me. The president chuckling about IRAN scares me — not really…

Don’t believe you senses? Chinese Cops get knives and jugs…. Jugs?

be very skeptical about this link below:

I included the link below just so you can recognize fear mongering when it takes place….

I don’t think the USA is going to war with Iran anytime soon, no matter what the horrid Associated Press has to say….

don’t you just love fear mongering?

Bushs Iran stance echos Iraq (associated press)

WASHINGTON - President Bush’s tough new stance on Iran and his military
buildup in the Persian Gulf recall some of the drumbeats that preceded
the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

    Great post
    from Liuzhou China:

Ministry of Public Security in China says that cops get all new equipment including knives and jugs…. Jugs?

    thanks liuzhou - http://liuzhou.blog-city.com/

    Outlandish Prediction of the Week:

after Iraq is standing on its own two feet in 2008, Bush will be remembered as a hard nosed genius and it will be Hillary/Obama in the White House. Oh, and John Kerry will be the next snowboarding champ.

Lip Service - China admits anti-satellite test, but insists it is not Militarizing Space

China Admits Anti-Satellite Test, Says Not A Threat To Anyone

Washington (AFP) Jan 22, 2007 - China has acknowledged conducting an  anti-satellite missile test earlier this month, but said it was not a
threat to other countries or a sign Beijing is militarizing space, the
State Department said Monday. Assistant Secretary of State Christopher
Hill raised US objections to the test with senior Chinese officials
during a visit to Beijing over the weekend, State Department spokesman
    Sean McCormack said.

Quote of the Day - on language

Language is the source of misunderstanding” - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

I was stumbling around the web this morning and I found a pretty interesting site about how the meanings of things get lost in translation. Here it is:
    http://www.tashian.com/multibabel/

This site automatically translates any text you type into five different languages and then back to English. The result is never the same as what you typed in the first place. It is an interesting distraction if nothing else, so enjoy. Here is my example to give you an idea:::

constant skeptic’s mantra before being babeled:

“Some things are really worth thinking about, like music and living life.”

constant skeptic’s mantra after being babeled:
“Some things are really interesting approximately to think like alive music and the duration.”

Pretty interesting, reminds me of beat poetry, maybe thats how Jack Kerouac did it.
