“True” Russian Orthodox Church Believes World Will End in May 2008

    original article:
    http://edition.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/11/15/doomsday.cult/index.html

The cult, which calls itself the “true Russian Orthodox Church,” believes the end of the world will come in May 2008.
Prosecutors announced Thursday they are opening criminal proceedings
against the cult’s leader, Father Pyotr Kuznetsov. Kuznetsov, 43, is
“under the supervision of investigators,” Olig Troshin, a Penza
prosecutor, told Itar-Tass. A law enforcement source in Penza told the Russian news agency Interfax that Kuznetsov “is being examined by psychiatrists.”

Four children are among 29 cult members holed up in a ravine in Russia’s Penza region, where they apparently dug a cave.

“It is obviously some kind of insanity,” Mitropolitan Kirill, a
high-ranking Russian Orthodox Church official, told Russian television.
“It is perhaps even a medical case. A very dangerous phenomena is
    happening in Russia’s religious life.

What is interesting about this case is that there is an Eastern Orthodox religious aspect to this cult that is virtually unprecedented in the modern world. What I think this points to is the general breakdown of religious education in Russia in the modern era, which mirrors the over-zealous secularism that has run rampant in the West for some decades now since the 1960’s.

Religion and faith give people a moral base to make their decisions, as well as give people a belief in something more than themselves. Once this faith is lost, what is to replace it except consumerism, free markets, politics, and charismatic cult leaders. We have to remember that religion is not all fundamentalism and right wing nonsense, at its root, it is meant to bring people together united to serve a higher power, whatever that may be.

Who knows… maybe they will prove us all wrong and the world will end during my birthday month next year, May 2008.

The fuji camera is popular due to various reasons. Not only are its digital camera batteries ever-lasting, but the camera cases are unbreakable too. No camera accessories are required either with the camera.

Sifting through 2006 - Glorious articles Gleam from the Rubbish

I found this great op-ed piece from Gregg Easterbrook who is a contributor for the New York Times. Its theme is the case for global warming and how it is becoming obvious that it is real. One of the better quotes from the article:

“The greatest worry is that climate change will harm the agricultural
system on which civilization is based. Suppose climate change shifted
precipitation away from breadbasket regions, sending rain clouds
instead to the world’s deserts. Over generations, society would adjust
    — but years of global food shortages might occur during the adjustment,
likely causing chaos in poor countries and armies of desperate refugees
at the borders of wealthy nations.”

I think we are already seeing this take place.

The article also mentions that by some estimates the global water levels could rise as much as three feet by the end of the 21st century.

On the short term, there are some benefits for rising temperatures, lower heating costs, opening of the tundra to development, and the article mentions that Buffalo may become a vaction paradise…. hmmmm… I am skeptical about that but who knows, stranger things are happening. Like the coordinated simultaneous massive wind storms experienced by Europe and the US in the past week. Are we talking about weather terrorism here? WEATHER TERROR! Is the weather the new terrorist threat? Weather jihad? hmmmm… How do you fight the wind?

All I know is that sending more troops in to surge against it wouldn’t work in this case. Yes, we are all doomed, because mother nature’s fury has never been beat, she will destroy, pilliage, and plunder on a whim, and all the scientists can do is blame it on el nino or el nina or whatever they want to label it.

Once we somehow can master the weather, then we will have truly become gods among men. For he who controls mother nature can be master of the earth.

Alligator Grabs and Kills Florida Woman while jogging

MIAMI, Florida (Reuters) — An alligator grabbed and killed a Florida woman who disappeared while jogging near a canal, a medical examiner determined Thursday.
Construction workers found the woman’s dismembered body floating Wednesday in a canal in Sunrise, a northwest suburb of Fort Lauderdale.
An autopsy showed she died of bleeding and shock from alligator bites. (Watch as police hunt for the killer — 1:20)
