Some Clarification on My Beliefs About Global Warming

Usually nikon digital cameras are used by professionals. For security camera systems, the most popular choice is the olympus camera. Nowadays people are using the kodak camera too.

As you probably have noticed when reading my previous posts on global warming, I usually post references and excerpts from other articles, but I let the readers form their own conclusions without any interference from me.

Well, the time has come to let my opinion be known, and I hope to be frank and direct concerning my beliefs on the subject. I am also very interested in any opinions my readers have, since this has become a very politicized issue as of late.

First Things First: What’s in a name?

I may be going out on a limb right off the get go but, I believe that the term “global warming” is really a misnomer. What we are dealing with is global climate change. This change in terminology is not for any nefarious purpose, it is not spin-doctoring, it is just an attempt to clarify a complicated and often misunderstood concept. I have found through my research that how you refer to an issue affects to a certain degree how you think about the issue, so the correct name for a specific phenomena is very important.

Global climate change is always occurring, it is perpetually in motion, and it would take place even if humans never existed on this planet.

Yes, Antarctica will be ice free at some point in the future. I say buy some vacation property now…. the only thing that will keep people from moving there is a small tidbit of information that it just happens to be the windiest place on Earth.

In general terms, the earth goes through long periods of cooling and warming, and this (according to the latest consensus) is a cyclical phenomenon. In fact, by all accounts, we should have entered the next ice age circa 1970 or so. The main problem that scientists are dealing with now is why we haven’t…. since we obviously are not in an ice age, we must be having some effect on our climate, but to what degree is the question.

The ultimate questions to answer: (if anyone can answer these questions conclusively, then we have our global climate change issue solved)

    1. How much of an effect has the industrial revolution and the current petroleum dependant world system had on the climate?

    2. Can we measure a single person’s affect on the climate? (like measuring our ‘energy footprint’ but in terms of how much we are causing the Earth to get warmer)

    3. Can we prove beyond a doubt that we have gone beyond the ‘tipping point’ and that whatever we do to mitigate the effects of global warming it is too late to do anything about it? (some scientists believe that even if we stop all CO2 output right now, we are still doomed to suffer the consequences of our decadent energy consumption lifestyles)

So, some interesting questions to ponder. Our fair leader, President Bush has stated time and time again that there is not enough evidence yet that global warming is taking place as a result of human activity. What do you think?

If you read this far, you might as well comment and let me know what you think. I am actually hoping for a debate on this issue because maybe I have missed something in my research and I would love to add to my knowledge on this issue.

    Scaremongering at its best:

Some Skeptical Thoughts on the Honey Bee

Well readers, it appears that the honey bee is not as important as we think to the continued existence of humanity as we know it…. and I do apologize for the earlier fear mongering, but bee extinction as the cause of an apocalypse was too good to resist. :)

I still am worried about Einstein’s prediction that humans would disappear four years after bees did.

taken from the orginal here: http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2007/aug/02/bee_or_not_bee/

Before Europeans brought honeybees to the New World, all plants were successfully pollinated by native insects,” he says. “The honeybee (hive bee) Apis mellifera is not a native bee to the United States. There are many native Kansas insects, mostly different species of native bees that pollinate native Kansas plants.”

So why all the commotion over the little non-native honeybee? Because they provide $14.6 billion dollars worth of free labor each year when they pollinate our gardens, orchards and crops. The U.S. Senate is even getting into the act, passing two bills this year: The Pollinator Protection Act of 2007 and The Pollinator Habitat Protection Act of 2007. The primary fear driving these bills is that one-third of the U.S. food supply might be in danger of substantial losses if honeybees don’t perform at their current rate.

    Global Warming Debunked?

taken from Andrew Swallow’s article of the Timaru Herald:

Climate change will be considered a joke in five years
    time
, meteorologist Augie Auer told the annual meeting of Mid
Canterbury Federated Farmers in Ashburton this week.

Man’s contribution to the greenhouse gases was so small we couldn’t change the climate if we tried, he maintained.

“We’re all going to survive this. It’s all going to be a joke in five years,” he said.

    A
combination of misinterpreted and misguided science, media hype, and
political spin had created the current hysteria and it was time to put
    a stop to it.

“It is time to attack the myth of global warming,” he said.

    Water
vapour was responsible for 95 per cent of the greenhouse effect, an
effect which was vital to keep the world warm, he explained.

    “If
we didn’t have the greenhouse effect the planet would be at minus 18
deg C but because we do have the greenhouse effect it is plus 15 deg C,
    all the time.”

Mystery light debunked and lead is Your New Friend

    yet another UFO mystery debunked….
    I was skeptical all along.

    original article:

WorldNetDaily: Lights ‘not of this world’ mystery finally solved

“Officials say the colorful illuminations seen Jan. 9 over western Arkansas
came from special military flares that slowly parachuted to the ground
as part of an Air Force training mission involving A-10 aircraft pilots
at nearby Fort Chaffee, a base used for testing weaponry.”

Even if UFOs aren’t invading into Arkansas just yet, trust assured, we are still doomed and its going to be because of lead mutants:

    “the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is considering removing
lead entirely from the list of pollutants it controls under the
    Clean Air Act.”

take action here through the Union of Concerned Scientists (which I am a part of)

don’t think lead is that important? well, do your own research and decide.

Sifting through 2006 - Glorious articles Gleam from the Rubbish

I found this great op-ed piece from Gregg Easterbrook who is a contributor for the New York Times. Its theme is the case for global warming and how it is becoming obvious that it is real. One of the better quotes from the article:

“The greatest worry is that climate change will harm the agricultural
system on which civilization is based. Suppose climate change shifted
precipitation away from breadbasket regions, sending rain clouds
instead to the world’s deserts. Over generations, society would adjust
    — but years of global food shortages might occur during the adjustment,
likely causing chaos in poor countries and armies of desperate refugees
at the borders of wealthy nations.”

I think we are already seeing this take place.

The article also mentions that by some estimates the global water levels could rise as much as three feet by the end of the 21st century.

On the short term, there are some benefits for rising temperatures, lower heating costs, opening of the tundra to development, and the article mentions that Buffalo may become a vaction paradise…. hmmmm… I am skeptical about that but who knows, stranger things are happening. Like the coordinated simultaneous massive wind storms experienced by Europe and the US in the past week. Are we talking about weather terrorism here? WEATHER TERROR! Is the weather the new terrorist threat? Weather jihad? hmmmm… How do you fight the wind?

All I know is that sending more troops in to surge against it wouldn’t work in this case. Yes, we are all doomed, because mother nature’s fury has never been beat, she will destroy, pilliage, and plunder on a whim, and all the scientists can do is blame it on el nino or el nina or whatever they want to label it.

Once we somehow can master the weather, then we will have truly become gods among men. For he who controls mother nature can be master of the earth.

A Fresh Slap in the Face

Well, the bloggers have arrived, according to the Media Bloggers Association.

The bloggers began showing up yesterday for the Lewis ‘Scooter’ Libby trial “as credentialed members of the media covering a federal trial.” Is this a major turning point for bloggers out there who want some street credit that they feel they deserve? Are bloggers going to give the mainstream media a run for their money? Or is it just two sides of the same coin? One will be too far right and the other too reactionary, so an informed reader will have to do what is necessary to find the middle ground and draw their own conclusions.

All this comes as oil hits a new low at $51 dollars/barrel. Looks like we can kiss those electric car dreams goodbye. Bring out the Hummers and the Mustangs…

The fact of the matter is that the profiteers are going to squeeze every last drop of profit out of petroleum before switching to alternative means to fill their greedy pockets. You can bet that the major oil companies already have some patented designs and innovations hidden under lock and key, just ready to unveil to the world to conveniently save the day at the right moment, when peak oil finally strikes and we are heading towards certain economic doom and depression, which I thought was going to happen when Alan Greenspan stepped down after his long tenure of effectively controlling and managing the domestic money markets.

Yes OPEC has even called for the use of ‘advanced technology’ to reduce CO2 emissions… but I wonder who has these ‘advanced’ technologies under lock and key…

Actually we shouldn’t worry about peak oil ushering in our certain doom, since we are borrowing billions of dollars from China to pay for our ballooning trade deficit. This deficit is going to ruin the dollar in international markets, which will bring the US down quicker than any presidental policy could.

As a final note in this rambling terrible post; please if your filling up your car and you see a Hummer filling up as well, give the drive a fresh slap in the face for me, and tell him he is killing our planet. And then slap yourself in the face because the CO2 from your flatulence is killing the planet as well, and it’s probably too late to do anything about it.

Climate change is real, but the questions are:

    1. Are we actually causing climate change, or is this just something cyclical?
    2. Is there anything we can do to stop it, short of going back to the pre-industrial era?

    hmmm.

Since we are doomed, we might as well enjoy our little lives while we can and listen to some good music. I hopefully will get another playlist posted up for the next one, so keep checking back. Thanks for the read and please comment.

PS - here is more crapola about the North American Union farce.
