On the Evils of Sugar - Did you know this?

In the last 20 years, we
have increased sugar consumption in the U.S. 26 pounds to 135 lbs. of sugar per
person per year! Prior to the turn of this century (1887-1890), the average
consumption was only 5 lbs. per person per year! Cardiovascular
    disease
    and cancer
was virtually unknown in the early 1900’s.”

To reiterate: prior to the 20th century, the average consumption of sugar per person, per year, was 5 pounds.

    Today it is 135 pounds!

Sugar keeps us fat and happy and sick so that food companies (including Starbucks), pharmaceutical companies, and health care companies can continue to make astronomical profits.

Does this sound like a conspiracy to you?

Maher is Right - Stop the 9-11 Conspiracy Theories - Please!

"Crazy people who still think the government brought down the Twin Towers in a controlled explosion have to stop pretending that I’m the one who’s being naive," says Maher.

How big a lunatic do you have to be to watch two giant airliners packed with jet fuel slam into buildings on live TV, igniting a massive inferno that burned for two hours, and then think ‘Well, if you believe that was the cause…’

Stop asking me to raise this ridiculous topic on the show and start asking your doctor if Paxil is right for you." - Maher on his show this past week

Note: I do not watch his show, I only found these quotes of the web, so don’t shoot the messenger. I do believe that 9-11 conspiracy theorists are a little pinched in the head to say the least….

Big Brother is watching, so don’t try to trespass or you will get eaten by beings from the netherworld or other horrible place.

The former Secretary of Defense finally admitted that it exists and “it is highly classified and the work that goes on there is highly important for national security.”

Scary thought of the Day - China rising as scarier foe than terrorists for US?

    courtesy of China Confidential:

“China is practicing a form of low-intensity “Unrestricted Warfare”
against the United States, as shown by its alarming anti-satellite test
    of January 11.

Unrestricted Warfare is the English title of an
influential 1999 book on military strategy authored by two Colonels in
the People’s Liberation Army, Qiao Liang and Wang Xiangsui. The book
argues that countries can defeat technologically superior foes through
deployment of an unlimited array of unconventional means rather than
through direct military confrontation. Methods include terrorism–the
book predicted the use of hijacked airplanes as flying
bombs–propaganda, international law, or “lawfare,” and information
    warfare.

“To cripple or destroy the enemy’s information system
would drastically degrade the enemy’s combat capabilities by making it
blind, deaf or paralyzed,” the authors assert.

    China’s use of a
missile to destroy one of its own, low orbiting, obsolete,
refrigerator-sized satellites is a stunning information warfare test.
But, in line with the strategy of Unrestricted Warfare, the explosion
that created a huge, dangerous debris cloud that will last a quarter
century or more is also a test of US nerve and will. Beijing is betting
that the proverbial Cooler Heads will prevail–i.e. that the battered
Bush administration’s pro-China-no-matter-what wing, which is led by
billionaire Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, will effectively downplay
the significance of the incident instead of treating it as a wakeup
call to US policymakers and defense planners.

    The Chinese reason
that with the US bogged down in Iraq and focused on nuclear arming Iran
(a Chinese ally) and nuclear armed North Korea (a Chinese vassal),
Washington is in no mood to confront the harsh realities of China’s
meteoric military and economic ascent. Exploiting opportunity–such as
the Islamist assault on the US–is a key underlying concept of
    Unrestricted Warfare.”

A Better way to Exploit the Consumer - Personalized Billboards

Taken from this international herald tribune article:

Four American cities will see talking billboards starting today. Mini Cooper, of all companies, will provide customers with personalized messages as they approach the billboards based on the information stored in their key fobs. You know, dear readers, that this is just a sugar coated RFID like device that is just the start of things to come. You already see it at your local Exxon station with the friendly happy ‘Speedpass’. That exxon tiger just makes me feel all warm inside, how about you? Take a look at exxons campaign contributions…

It will be dubbed as convenience when you no longer have to wait in checkout lines at stores, you will simply swipe your RFID enabled card and your account will automatically be deducted. Maybe not even swipe anything, maybe as you walk out of the door, the sensors will read the items you have on your person and charge your account the amount necessary and a little light will turn from red to green and the exit door of the store will open to let you leave. GOODBYE PETTY THEIVES!

It will be dubbed useful when your children will wear bracelets as homing devices to keep them within range at all times, since it is already being used in some prisons for the same purposes.

No one will call it evil. No one will call it the mark of the beast, except maybe some right wing extremists. All I can say is that I hope that these devices will be secured with some +260 bit encryption to protect from the newly spawned and spawning RFID hackers who will lie in wait by RFID drive thru ATMs and RFID enabled clothes stores. Anytime you use it for purchase, there is an opportunity for the hacker to steal your account information.

So invest in security folks. Invest in big brother because it is too late to fight it. Maybe I’ve already been implanted… I had a dream the other night that a voice inside my head was talking about ‘uploading’ and being ‘almost finished’ and then the voice reported success, and then I woke up. And now I have a mysterious red mark the width of a needle on the right side of my temple.

    look familiar?

Guess it will just make me a good consumer. So get out and buy stuff will your old debit cards while you can, RFID enabled cards will be coming, and these old cards will be the stuff of retro-mania very soon.

Sifting through 2006 - Glorious articles Gleam from the Rubbish

I found this great op-ed piece from Gregg Easterbrook who is a contributor for the New York Times. Its theme is the case for global warming and how it is becoming obvious that it is real. One of the better quotes from the article:

“The greatest worry is that climate change will harm the agricultural
system on which civilization is based. Suppose climate change shifted
precipitation away from breadbasket regions, sending rain clouds
instead to the world’s deserts. Over generations, society would adjust
    — but years of global food shortages might occur during the adjustment,
likely causing chaos in poor countries and armies of desperate refugees
at the borders of wealthy nations.”

I think we are already seeing this take place.

The article also mentions that by some estimates the global water levels could rise as much as three feet by the end of the 21st century.

On the short term, there are some benefits for rising temperatures, lower heating costs, opening of the tundra to development, and the article mentions that Buffalo may become a vaction paradise…. hmmmm… I am skeptical about that but who knows, stranger things are happening. Like the coordinated simultaneous massive wind storms experienced by Europe and the US in the past week. Are we talking about weather terrorism here? WEATHER TERROR! Is the weather the new terrorist threat? Weather jihad? hmmmm… How do you fight the wind?

All I know is that sending more troops in to surge against it wouldn’t work in this case. Yes, we are all doomed, because mother nature’s fury has never been beat, she will destroy, pilliage, and plunder on a whim, and all the scientists can do is blame it on el nino or el nina or whatever they want to label it.

Once we somehow can master the weather, then we will have truly become gods among men. For he who controls mother nature can be master of the earth.

New Strangeness for the New Year - video of NASA photo touchups & conjuring the face on mars & falling objects in New Jersey

    first off:
Watch out for falling objects this new year…..

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, N.J. - A metal, rock-like object about the size of a golf
ball and weighing nearly as much as a can of soup crashed through the
roof of a Monmouth County home, and authorities on Wednesday were
trying to figure out what it was.” original article here

What is known so far is that the metal object was “heavier than a usual metal object of that size” and that no radioactivity was detected. At least the NJ cops will be kept busy for a while.

    Falling ObjectsDanger Falling Objects

Constant Skeptics prediction for 2007 is that more things will be falling and police will continue to ponder that magical thing called gravity.

In between dreams of new years resolutions to quit smoking and to stop eating questionable foods, I found some terribly bad Mars pictures with alleged ‘extraterrestrial evidence’. Look how ridiculous they are:

you can comment to the person who believes this crap here.

Here is the face on mars original:

To continue with the ufo theme, and to segway into the war on terror, or was it the war on germs and general fashion sense? - look at what passengers are wearing in San Diego during check-in for flights now, dubbed ‘Sky Slippers‘, these beastly things should be at an airport near you soon.

and finally: the video of the alleged NASA cover up and touch up of extraterrestrial bases on the dark side of the moon.
