By now everyone should be sick of this Virginia Tech nightmare, so I offer this interesting tidbit about how the media helps propagate similar copy-cat crimes and murder suicides by flooding their stations with this type of news.
taken from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copycat_suicide
The Werther Effect – Following the 1774 publication of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s The Sorrows of Young Werther, readers began to imitate the protagonist’s behavior. They not only copied his peculiar style of dress, but also emulated his more extreme action of suicide. In 1974, sociologist David Phillips coined the term “the Werther effect” to describe imitative suicidal behavior transmitted via the mass media. Research found that the number of suicides and deadly accidents increased following a highly publicized suicide, particularly in the area in which it took place. Oftentimes, those that imitate the suicidal actions relate closely to the original victim, by being similar in age, ethnic background, gender, and/or other demographic characteristics.

-a post to help you make that New Years Resolution for 2007 to kill your TV.
this morning, a very interesting quote from ‘career bigot’, Jared Taylor who was on CNN for a ‘dialogue on race relations’:
Whites are the ones who are very careful about what they say…. They can’t use a two-syllable word, for fear of losing their jobs…. What does that say, really, about the racial power relationship in the United States there?… Whites are the ones who are, in effect, intimidated, and are walking on eggs, for fear of possibly offending blacks.
so, readers, anyone ‘walking on eggs’ out there today? How ridiculous can you get? Race is such a touchy issue, it’s a shame that CNN has nothing to report so they have inflammatory personalities on the set to keep the public enthralled until the next commercial break.
Yet another reason to shut your TV set off, get a shotgun, and fire away.
If your kid asks for a BB gun for Christmas, tell him only if you can shoot his TV out and his video games along with it.
At least John McCain is protecting ‘our children’ by the ‘Exploitation of Our Children Act‘, which basically is calling for a lot more restriction of usage rights for web-hosts.
