yes the constant skeptic looks different…. how to do favicons and more

So, I guess if you are reading this, you know that I have updated this site’s look and feel. I hope the changes I have made are for the better. If they are not, feel free to rant in the comments section below. Remember to be nice because it is Christmas.

    Changes
I changed the favicon for the site, which is the little avatar that represents what the site looks like next to the address bar and in the browser tabs as well.

The old favicon was Bat Boy, but now it is more like a golden sun with the simple letters CS in the foreground.

So, just in case you have your own web site and you want to create your own favicon, here are a few helpful tips:

    1. create a new image in GIMP 2, paint.net, etc. that has a canvas size of 16 x 16 pixels
    2. design on this canvas the way you want the image to look, keeping in mind that it will be very tiny
    3. save as either a jpeg or gif image
    4. rename the file extension to .ico and then you are ready to upload it.

for further details read this great post on “Daily Blog Tips”, which I really do read daily as of yesterday

OK, so on to the other changes:

I also finally gave up and added advertisement blocks on the site in an attempt to finally monetize this blog after 2 years of development. If you want to advertise anything on here, please email me and let me know.

Changes Occurring Soon - Site Update

Well the time has come for me to update and add some features on the constant skeptic. Some feedback would be nice as to what to add, but I understand - who has the time?

Who would like to see more AJAX on the site? I know I would but it is kind of fishy using some of the wordpress plugins that are out there and to try to implement it in the php.

Either way, I will be adding some new commenting features (hopefully), and I will be changing the look and feel of the CSS a little bit.

Digg the Polls? - WP-Polls Wordpress Plugin Widget Now Active!

I’ve finally implemented the new updated and AJAX heavy wp-polls plugin for you wordpress self-hosters out there, and I am using the widget feature.

The plugin was one of the more simple ones to implement on the site. I just uploaded the whole folder via ftp to the wordpress/wp-includes/plugins folder and then activated it under the plugin manager on wordpress dashboard.

After that, a little tab link entitled ‘polls’ is created and this is where you can create, edit, and delete your polls.

The only problem is now I need good topics to poll about.

At the time of this post I had a little run of the mill ‘what type of browser do you use poll’, which I admit is pretty lame-o.

You can check out the latest poll results for who you think will win the 2008 elections here in my poll archives page.

If you have any ideas for future polls please let me know… I would greatly appreciate it. Just comment below, and if you like the content, send others here as well.
