TRENT REZNOR and NIN Knows What the F is Up with record companies

Trent Reznor knows what he is fuckin doing. Period.
Radiohead comes out with In Rainbows and lets fans pay what they want for it.
so Trent says, fuck it…. I will make not one (I) but four (IV) GHOSTS.

I just downloaded it (the new CD) from Amazon.com for five USD because the NIN site was down due to extremely high traffic loads.

FROM Ghosts II - track 14, I really recommend. My favorite so far is that one.

NIN is saying ef u to the record companies. Radiohead already did. Who is next?

Music for you because I love it right now… Andrew Bird, Okkervil River, and more

    I hate posting mp3s, but…

here is a few songs that I can’t get off my IPOD rotation right now:

Andrew Bird - The Giant of Illinois (mp3)

Modest Mouse - One Chance (mp3)

Division Day - Enjoy the Silence (cover) (mp3)

Okkervil River - A Girl in Port (mp3)

    Unknown - Satan Redux (mp3)

(If anyone knows the band/entity who created the song SATAN REDUX, please let me know… I believe this is going to be the future of music as we know it, for better or worse.)

I would say that I hope you enjoy the songs, but I actually am indifferent. Do with them what you wish, but I will always love them… at least until next week when I am sick of them and I go back to Dylan. UPDATE: Please at least leave a comment below if you listen to these tracks and like or hate what your ears are tellin ya.

New Experimental Music to Crave - Sylvain Chauveau & Felicia Atkinson

Trust me, this is the future now…

    Sylvain Chauveau + Felicia Atkinson
    Experimental / Minimalist / Electroacoustic

    the constant skeptic says:

“the track Aberdeen is haunting, experimental, and ephemeral… I zoned out on the highway and listened to it on my IPOD in traffic towards Washington dc circa 5am on a Tuesday….

countries, city names, and ghosts haunt the track and memories creep up from nowhere into this space-time from upper dimensional clouds….

I think God, Allah, Jack Kerouac, and Buddha must be just around the bend, and then it is over and I am at work and the world is grey again until I hit the back button and play it again.”

    House of Brothers Music Review

House of Brothers NEW MUSIC REVIEW

Even though I do not usually post reviews on new artists, I was sent this band’s mp3 electronically by angel… so I decided to post something short and sweet to entice you to check the music out and see for yourself whether you like it or not.

“Superb bootsale-pop like Elliot Smith rubbed down with lavender” - NME

“Sparkling indie-folk in style, as magical as anything the much-acclaimed Fionn Regan has recently released to the world. It is serene, stunningly so, and quite wonderfully arresting” - Drowned In Sound

    The Constant Skeptic says…..

I am eager to hear more from these guys after listening to their single “Deadman“, and since I have such an affinity for Elliott Smith, their familiar somber sounding melodies are a welcome addition to my IPOD.

I do hope to hear something maybe more heavy or faster from them, maybe would be a good idea for a follow up record. Vocals are superb, guitar work superb, and the melodies are Grey’s Anatomy-esque, which is definitely a compliment.

I like the fact that House of Brothers is a solo project, and I think that Andrew Jackson, the man behind the band name could open up for such well seasoned acts as Amos Lee and Bright Eyes.

    BIO FOR BAND OF BROTHERS:

Hailing from Nottingham, England, House of Brothers is the solo project from Andrew Jackson, former member of The Murder of Rosa Luxemburg, one of the finest post-hardcore band’s the UK has seen in many a year. Taking on a much different style this time around, House of Brothers music, with it’s beautiful strings, clever guitar lines and gentle vocals, draws it’s influences from the likes of Nick Drake, Vashti Bunyan, Tom Waits, Iron And Wine and Sun Kil Moon.

With the debut EP, ‘Deadman’, set for release via Big Scary Monsters Records (Yndi Halda, Meet Me In St Louis, This Town Needs Guns) on 26th November, we’ve decided to offer a free MP3 of the title track, which can be found at…

Wes Anderson, The Kinks, and The Darjeeling Limited - Tempting Me to Post MP3s

I have tried time and time again to steer clear of posting mp3s just to get cheap page clicks from weirdos downloading free music… especially since I have no ad revenue setup on this site anyway… but I couldn’t resist spilling some music from the new Wes Anderson movie soundtrack songs.

I have discovered The Kinks, like some long lost friend that knows you better than you know yourself:
    1. The Kinks - This Time Tomorrow [mp3]
    (highly recommended)

    2. The Kinks - Strangers [mp3]
    (highly recommended)

please note that highly recommended means if you don’t like the song being recommended then there is something wrong with you, not me…

check out the trailer for the upcoming movie Darjeeling Limited:
(Wes Anderson’s previous cinematic masterpieces include “The Royal Tenebaums”, “Bottle Rocket”, and “Life Aquatic”)

I am the Best Multi-Tasker Ever! - Watching Movies on IPOD Video in Traffic While Driving - Do Not Try This At Home!

watching royal tenebaums in the car

I definitely do not recommend attempting this, especially in DC traffic, but I figured what the hell….

It all started around noonish last friday when I decided to leave work early to beat the DC Beltway traffic. Boy was I in for a surprise. Because of all the out of state idiots hogging up all four lanes (license plates from Ohio to Ontario all over the highway) traffic was stop and go the whole way home to my fair town of Parkville in North Baltimore. During the 2.5 hour commute I decided to switch my Video IPOD from music to see what videos I had…. I realized I had downloaded “The Royal Tenebaums” to see if movie quality was good on the IPOD or not, a while ago when I first bought the gadget last summer. Great movie by the way, on my Top Ten list that I should be creating soon….

Anyway, I relaxed and started watching the movie, until I heard a faint sound like someone or a lot of people honking at me to move my ass…. So I stepped on the gas, flew up right behind the stopped traffic and continued to watch the movie….. I did this the whole way home and got through half the movie this way! I also sent a few text messages as well.

So how is that for multi-tasking….
Next Friday I am going to try eating fast food, talking on the cell phone (and not use my bluetooth hands free), shift gears (I have a 6 speed), and give the finger to the slower foreign traffic as well, all while watching the IPOD out of the corner of my eye and praying to the GODHEAD.

    hah.

If you have any traffic stories, or multi-tasking nightmares, feel free to comment below.

    Thanks for reading.

Thunder and rain is pouring down and up as I write this.

Since I am skeptical about multi-tasking - here is a great post from lifehacker.com about how multi-tasking might make your less productive.

(PS - I am listening to The National - are you?)

Global warming Natural Phenomena Caused by the Sun? Neil Young MP3 Helps Me Decide

why is are portions of antarctica getting colder?

the following snippet taken from here: timesonline.co.uk

    “The best measurements of global
air temperatures come from American weather satellites, and they show
wobbles but no overall change since 1999.

That levelling off is just what is expected by the chief rival hypothesis,
which says that the sun drives climate changes more emphatically than
greenhouse gases do. After becoming much more active during the 20th
century, the sun now stands at a high but roughly level state of activity.
Solar physicists warn of possible global cooling, should the sun revert to
the lazier mood it was in during the Little Ice Age 300 years ago.

Climate history and related archeology give solid support to the solar
hypothesis. The 20th-century episode, or Modern Warming, was just the latest
in a long string of similar events produced by a hyperactive sun, of which
the last was the Medieval Warming.

The Chinese population doubled then, while in Europe the Vikings and
cathedral-builders prospered. Fascinating relics of earlier episodes come
from the Swiss Alps, with the rediscovery in 2003 of a long-forgotten pass
used intermittently whenever the world was warm.

What does the Intergovernmental Panel do with such emphatic evidence for an
alternation of warm and cold periods, linked to solar activity and going on
long before human industry was a possible factor? Less than nothing. The
2007 Summary for Policymakers boasts of cutting in half a very small
contribution by the sun to climate change conceded in a 2001 report.”
    —————————————————————

food for thought to say the least…
do some research and try to decide for yourself which side you are on.

I couldn’t find Neil Young’s ‘Down By the River’, so I offer ‘Sugar Mountain.mp3
