Invest in Solar Now - Here is a huge reason why

Invalid image or bad permissions [http://www.exxonmobil.com/corporate/images/enlarged_globalpower.jpg]

(disclaimer - this is still a work in progress, I did not get to edit this post as much as I wanted to, but it is new years eve so bear with me.)

    HEADLINE: ( courtesy of metaefficient.com )

North America’s Largest Solar-Electric Plant Switched On

North America’s largest solar photovoltaic system is now running and generating power — about 30 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. The 14 megawatt power plant is at the Nellis Air Force Base in the sunny desert of southern Nevada. It’s expected to save about $1 million in power costs annually, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 24,000 tons each year.

This is a huge indicator that the US is moving towards accepting the fact that they need to be more diverse when it comes to energy resources. One day, the oil will be gone and by then all of the major players of the oil industry will have already bought up, invested in, and created a new ‘alternative energy industry’ complete with marketing strategies, fancy new gadgets, ‘green’ badging (as can already be witnessed by the latest ads from Exxon and BP solar.)

    Solar Panels

    GET INFORMED:

Check out Exxon Mobil’s latest energy outlook 2007 PDF for 2030 including assessments for nuclear energy, fossil fuels, and alternative fuels. (PDF)

Here is a description of it from the Exxon Mobil site:

This year’s report focuses on energy demand to the year 2030, with particular emphasis on the increasing needs of the power generation and transportation sectors. It also examines how rising demand will be met from the various energy sources available, including fossil fuels, nuclear power and renewable energies. It also provides insight to the challenge of meeting growing energy needs while significantly mitigating global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

REBADGING GROUPS OF NATIONS: (OECD VS NON OECD)

This chart can be pretty confusing unless you know what you are looking at.

OECD countries are those that are top tier countries that participate and contribute to the global economy:

The ORGANIZATION FOR ECONOMIC COOPERATION AND DEVELOPMENT

Founding members (1961): (courtesy of wikipedia)

    Flag of Japan Japan* (1964)

Flag of South Korea South Korea* (1996)
    Flag of Hungary Hungary (1996)
    Flag of Poland Poland (1996)
    Flag of Slovakia Slovakia (2000)

So, basically, if you refer back to the chart, the NON OECD countries are the ‘developing’ nations that will have the highest growth in demand for renewable and non-renewable resources in the coming decades.

What is interesting to me is that COAL not OIL will be the major source of demand for energy by the non OECD nations. This is another indicator if you connect the dots from exxon to bp solar to OECD to OPEC to the World Bank to wikipedia and finally to Kevin Bacon that alternative energy investment is a sure thing.

Don’t believe me? Fine. Do your own research. Investigate which start up solar companies are being bought up by big oil corporations and invest in these companies, because the market has spoken.

There will be no PEAK OIL DISASTER. Long before the oil runs out, the alternative energy market will be prosperous and fueling the world economy. Do not believe the hype from the gloom and doom forecasters that love to scare monger.

    From the Experts:

Here is an academic who believes that society is not prepared for the coming oil crisis and is cashing in on fear mongering… who can blame him I guess

    (thanks Peak Oil News Blog)

Colin Campbell, a British geologist who popularized the peak- oil theory in his book “The Coming Oil Crisis” (Multi-Science Publishing Co. and Petroconsultants SA, 1997, 210 pages) says world production of conventional oil, the kind that comes from gushing wells, is reaching its apex.

Colin Campbell, a former petroleum geologist who is now a trustee of the U.K.-based Oil Depletion Analysis Centre, warned way back in 2002 that we were headed for peak oil production and that this would lead to “war, starvation, economic recession, possibly even the extinction of homo sapiens.”

“Colin Campbell has the worst forecasting record on oil supply,” says Mike Lynch, who is president of the Global Petroleum Service (SEER), “and that’s saying a lot.” He points out that in a 1989 article for the journal Noroil, Mr. Campbell claimed the peak of world oil production had already passed and incorrectly predicted that oil soon would cost $30 to $50 a barrel. As for Mr. Simmons, Mr. Lynch dismisses him with a sneer: “Petroleum engineers know a lot more about petroleum engineering than a Harvard MBA.”

Don’t you love it when academics and industry spokesmen clash? I am skeptical about both of their statements and I just have not done enough research of my own yet to decide whether or not the world’s transition out of this petroleum age will take a smooth or bumpy course. All I know for sure is that there are people out there with detailed plans on how to make money on this transition.

The Greatest Scam in Modern History - Global Warming?

Brief history up to present global climaggedon:

Back in the seventies it was global cooling…. the world was on a brink of the next ice age… and then,
all of the sudden we produced a lot of smog that warmed up the Earth and we were saved! Yeah, go humans!

But then Al Gore spawned out of the ether and presented us with AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH… and we are now again doomed by the threat of global warming.

Are humans affecting global climate change? Who knows… but there is a lot of unnecessary scaremongering going on, but maybe that is the only way to make congress fund alternative energy research… what do you think?

    taken from icecap.us:

“It is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming; It is a SCAM. Environmental extremists, notable politicians among them, then teamed up with movie, media and other liberal, environmentalist journalists to create this wild “scientific” scenario of the civilization threatening environmental consequences from Global Warming unless we adhere to their radical agenda. Now their ridiculous manipulated science has been accepted as fact and become a cornerstone issue Climate Change, is not about environmentalism or politics. It is not a religion. It is not something you “believe in.” It is science; the science of meteorology. This is my field of life-long expertise. And I am telling you Global Warming is a non-event, a manufactured crisis and a total scam. I say this knowing you probably won’t believe a me, a mere TV weatherman, challenging a Nobel Prize, Academy Award and Emmy Award winning former Vice President of United States. So be it.”

Louis Palmer wants to be the first man to drive around the world in a
solar-powered car. He has started a project, SolarTaxi, which aims to circumvent
the globe in the green car, meeting politicians and policy makers as they go.
“With the power of the sun around the world - stop global warming! 40.000 km…
40 countries… 14 months…” The Swiss team will head of on the 3rd of July
from Lucerne in Switzerland. Palmer has previously tested the car out on a
relatively short dash to Spain and back, a round-trip of 3,000 km. If this
sounds interesting, then get in touch with the group, they’re currently looking
to arrange visits on their way around the world. “Organise our visit in…

A Fresh Slap in the Face

Well, the bloggers have arrived, according to the Media Bloggers Association.

The bloggers began showing up yesterday for the Lewis ‘Scooter’ Libby trial “as credentialed members of the media covering a federal trial.” Is this a major turning point for bloggers out there who want some street credit that they feel they deserve? Are bloggers going to give the mainstream media a run for their money? Or is it just two sides of the same coin? One will be too far right and the other too reactionary, so an informed reader will have to do what is necessary to find the middle ground and draw their own conclusions.

All this comes as oil hits a new low at $51 dollars/barrel. Looks like we can kiss those electric car dreams goodbye. Bring out the Hummers and the Mustangs…

The fact of the matter is that the profiteers are going to squeeze every last drop of profit out of petroleum before switching to alternative means to fill their greedy pockets. You can bet that the major oil companies already have some patented designs and innovations hidden under lock and key, just ready to unveil to the world to conveniently save the day at the right moment, when peak oil finally strikes and we are heading towards certain economic doom and depression, which I thought was going to happen when Alan Greenspan stepped down after his long tenure of effectively controlling and managing the domestic money markets.

Yes OPEC has even called for the use of ‘advanced technology’ to reduce CO2 emissions… but I wonder who has these ‘advanced’ technologies under lock and key…

Actually we shouldn’t worry about peak oil ushering in our certain doom, since we are borrowing billions of dollars from China to pay for our ballooning trade deficit. This deficit is going to ruin the dollar in international markets, which will bring the US down quicker than any presidental policy could.

As a final note in this rambling terrible post; please if your filling up your car and you see a Hummer filling up as well, give the drive a fresh slap in the face for me, and tell him he is killing our planet. And then slap yourself in the face because the CO2 from your flatulence is killing the planet as well, and it’s probably too late to do anything about it.

Climate change is real, but the questions are:

    1. Are we actually causing climate change, or is this just something cyclical?
    2. Is there anything we can do to stop it, short of going back to the pre-industrial era?

    hmmm.

Since we are doomed, we might as well enjoy our little lives while we can and listen to some good music. I hopefully will get another playlist posted up for the next one, so keep checking back. Thanks for the read and please comment.

PS - here is more crapola about the North American Union farce.
