Update on GM Wuling Minivans - prob. not all that great

posted in unlabeled, world view |

my previous post about GM producing a 43mpg minivan in China and how great this was sparked a comment by a source in the town these minivans are being produced - Liuzhou. The source commented that the minivans weren’t that great,

“Wuling were making these minivans long before GM became involved

(Incidentally, GM are a minority shareholder in the joint company. Major shareholders are SAIC and Wuling.)

One reason that they are not available outside China is that they don’t meet the safety standards.

Far from being popular, they are considered to be unreliable, dangerous and short lived.”

so it looks like the international press sugarcoated the minivans popularity and quality…. not the first time the press has spun the issue. The van isn’t that great to look at either judging from the picture.

Now at least we know why GM won’t market these in the US. They are making too much money with the Hummers anyway.
